Start in three steps
- 1Install the browser extension
Unzip, open chrome://extensions (Edge: edge://extensions), enable Developer mode and load the unpacked folder.
- 2Run the local companion service
Windows: run HearLingoService.exe — it runs silently in the background (first run auto-registers). macOS: run the HearLingoService inside the archive. The extension connects automatically.
- 3Open a supported video site
Play a foreign-language video — subtitles are translated and spoken aloud. Click anywhere on the page once to unblock audio held back by the browser.
Supported video sites (10)
Caption on/off control: YouTube & Bilibili; other sites automatically fall back to on-screen subtitle reading (OCR) or transcript channels.
Requirements: Windows 10/11, latest Chrome or Edge, internet connection (cloud TTS). The companion supports an optional local offline translation engine.
